The USSDH and IESSDEH are well known for their experience carrying out research, training and technical support to promote public policies in themes related to health, citizenship and human development. They have in-country and international experience in health, sexual rights and HIV/Aids, with emphasis on issues related to vulnerable populations to, or affected by HIV, including sexually diverse populations (lesbians, gay men, bisexual, transgender) and women engaged in sex work.
In that sense, USSDH and IESSDEH can offer consultancies, locally and internationally regarding:
  • Design and conduct of qualitative research.
  • Second-generation epidemiological surveillance studies and population size estimation.
  • Public policy studies and health program impact.
  • Health economics studies.
  • Courses and workshops on:
    • Qualitative research methodology and analysis, including Atlas Ti courses, design and development of research.
    • Responding to the health needs of vulnerable populations.
    • Applying the gender approach to research and health care.
    • Counseling on sexual health and STI, HIV/Aids.
    • Training of community leaders.
  • Consulting in strategic planning processes.
  • Consulting in design, monitoring and evaluation of development projects.
  • Editing and production of technical publications.


Located at the Faculty of Sciences at UPCH, as part of the Laboratories of Research and Development in Science and Technology Complex (LID), it specializes in HIV/AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Infections. Fully equipped with the latest generation technology, it works with immunodiagnostic tools. Currently it has a quality control agreement with the Public Health Laboratory in San Francisco (USA). It offers:
  • Specialized research in Sexually Transmitted Infections and HIV/Aids, with the latest generation technology and immunodiagnostic tools.
  • Monitoring of HIV infection through viral load.
  • Training in STIs and HIV infection diagnosis.


Finally, the Systems and Information Technology area has significant experience in the development of cost-effective IT solutions for clinical trials, conferences, laboratory systems and program evaluation. It is able to offer:
  • Analysis, design and development of computing solutions.
  • Data management systems: technological support which allows electronic data management of epidemiological and clinical studies.
